Canada has announced new sanctions targeting Russian entities involved in drone operations and energy production, as well as vessels in Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, during a meeting of G7 foreign ministers near Niagara Falls, Ontario. The measures, unveiled by Foreign Minister Anita Anand, are part of an ongoing effort to counter Russian aggression and limit its economic and military capabilities.
The sanctions include restrictions on financial transactions and asset freezes targeting specific individuals and companies linked to Russia’s energy sector and its drone capabilities, which have been used in recent conflicts. These measures are in line with similar actions by other G7 nations, indicating a coordinated international response to Moscow’s activities.
Foreign Minister Anita Anand emphasized the importance of collective action in deterring further Russian aggression. The sanctions are expected to have a significant economic impact on Russia, particularly in its energy exports, which are a major source of revenue for the country.
