CNN Host Acknowledges Need to Study ‘Conspiracy Theories’ to Engage Conservative Audiences

CNN host Abby Phillip has explained the challenges of discussing with conservative audiences by studying ‘conspiracy theories’. During an interview on Joy Reid’s podcast, Reid posed questions about how she handles discussions with people who hold false beliefs. Phillip responded by saying that being aware of certain ‘conspiracy’ theories is crucial for communicating with conservatives. This approach reflects the media’s polarized landscape as different groups are confined to their own information bubbles. Phillip also mentioned that some conservatives may be encountering the truth for the very first time when engaging in these discussions. She argues that the siloing of our information landscapes is one of the biggest problems in media today. The challenge of bridging the divide in a polarized media environment is a significant topic. In addition, Phillip made similar points during an interview on ‘Pod Save America’ earlier in the month. She accused Trump supporters of being in media silos. Phillips pointed out that it’s difficult for them to see outside of the information silos they’re in. She argued that the Republicans’ information silo ‘is probably more enclosed off’ than Democrats. This highlights the difficulties of communication and the media’s role in shaping political discourse.
