Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal has announced the establishment of air defense centers in Chernihiv, Poltava, and Zaporizhia, following the successful model implemented in Kharkiv region. These centers are designed to enhance the country’s capability to detect, track, and neutralize aerial threats, providing a critical layer of protection for civilian populations and military assets.
The decision comes as Ukraine continues to face intense pressure from Russian military operations, with the new centers expected to play a pivotal role in securing key urban areas and industrial zones. The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize and expand Ukraine’s defense infrastructure, ensuring that the nation is better prepared to respond to evolving security threats.
Shmyhal emphasized that the new centers will operate with the same level of coordination and effectiveness as those in Kharkiv, which has served as a model for successful air defense operations. The expansion is seen as a strategic move to consolidate Ukraine’s defensive posture while also reinforcing public confidence in the government’s ability to protect its citizens.
