Ukraine to Establish First Interagency Underwater Mine Clearance Group

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, has announced plans to establish the first interagency national group of underwater mine clearance instructors. This initiative, reported by the Ministry’s press service, aims to enhance the coordination and expertise of mine clearance operations in the country. The group will bring together experts from various government agencies and organizations to develop advanced training programs for underwater mine clearance.

The decision to create the interagency group follows a series of discussions among key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, as well as other mine action organizations. The initiative is expected to improve the efficiency and safety of mine clearance operations, particularly in areas affected by conflict-related unexploded ordnance. By standardizing training and fostering collaboration, the new group will play a critical role in reducing the risks associated with underwater mine removal.
