Venezuela has declared that it is increasing the number of troops on its borders in response to the United States’ significant military presence in the Caribbean.
The government has placed all of its military resources on alert, with nearly 200,000 troops put into full operational readiness and ordered to participate in war exercises throughout the day. The announcement came soon after the US Navy reported that the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and its three accompanying warships had reached the area managed by the Southern Command, which the Pentagon defines as covering most of Latin America and the Caribbean.
