Former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Claims Foreign Forces and Dr. Yunus Overthrew Her Government

Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted in August 2024, has publicly accused a controversial interim government led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus of being imposed by foreign mercenaries and Western interests. During an exclusive interview, Hasina claimed that the interim authority has exceeded its power by attempting to rewrite not just the country’s laws but also its Constitution. She also criticized the interim leadership for failing to protect religious minorities and for welcoming Islamic factions and radicalists into the country. Hasina expressed concerns about the fairness of upcoming elections, stating that they are neither free, fair, nor inclusive. She emphasized that the Awami League, her party, was the principal party in Bangladesh and had been elected nine times in the country’s history, including in the last election before the current crisis.
