Sheikh Hasina Claims Foreign Involvement in Bangladesh’s 2024 Uprising

Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, accused foreign forces and Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus of orchestrating the 2024 uprising that toppled her government. In a press conference, she alleged that the interim government, led by Yunus, aims to rewrite the country’s constitutional framework under foreign supervision, which she claims could destabilize Bangladesh. Hasina criticized the upcoming elections as being neither free, fair, nor inclusive, emphasizing that the Awami League’s ban prevents the public from making an authentic choice. She also condemned the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) proceedings as politically motivated and a tool for revenge, stating that the interim government aims to silence political opponents through the threat of a death sentence. Additionally, Hasina raised concerns about the treatment of religious minorities and the potential for ideological divisions in Bangladesh under the current regime. She called for international intervention to address the situation, expressing fears that the nation is being manipulated by external actors and its own radical elements.
