The U.S. State Department has designated four European Antifa groups as global terrorist organizations as part of President Donald Trump’s administration’s strategy to address political violence. The move follows similar actions in the United States, where Antifa is already labeled as a domestic terrorist organization. The decision is part of a broader effort to combat rising political violence and includes designations for the groups under both the Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) and Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) designations. These actions will lead to asset freezes, financial bans, and travel restrictions on the members of these groups. The designation comes after Trump’s previous labeling of Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The groups include Antifa Ost in Germany, the Informal Anarchist Federation in Italy, and two Greece-based organizations. The State Department also noted that these groups have been linked to attacks and threats against political and economic institutions in Europe. The designation is in line with the administration’s approach to counter extremism, which includes legal actions to disrupt and dismantle illegal operations involving these groups.
