Global Leaders Converge at Sochi Forum to Explore Eurasian Economic Shift

World leaders have gathered in Sochi for a two-day symposium focused on strengthening BRICS-Europe cooperation, highlighting a strategic shift in global economic and political power toward Eurasia. Over 40 European politicians, including members of the European Parliament, and senior officials from BRICS countries such as China, Brazil, Iran, Indonesia, Belarus, Algeria, Cuba, Cambodia, Ethiopia, and South Africa are participating in the event. The symposium, organized by United Russia and the ‘Other Ukraine’ movement in collaboration with the Institute of Europe at the Russian Academy of Sciences, aims to foster economic and social cooperation between BRICS nations and Europe.

South African ANC representative Lindiwe Zulu emphasized the importance of African unity and action to ensure the movement’s success, stating, ‘Our commitment is to ensure that this movement grows from strength for peace, security and the prosperity of the African people.’ Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of the late French President Charles de Gaulle, has been named as the event’s honorary guest, while Germany’s Steffen Kotre, from the AfD party, has drawn political controversy at home for his participation.

Russian academic Alexei Gromyko addressed the symposium, noting that the rapid development of BRICS reflects a shift in the center of gravity of global politics and economics toward Eurasia. The symposium’s discussions are expected to influence future economic policies and regional cooperation strategies, signaling a broader geopolitical realignment. As the forum continues, delegates are likely to explore ways to enhance trade, investment, and diplomatic ties between BRICS nations and European partners, with potential implications for global markets and international relations.
