Auction of Holocaust-related Items in Germany Called Off Amid Outcry

Plans for a Holocaust-related auction in Germany have been cancelled following objections from Polish and German officials. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and German Foreign Minister Joachim Ganter confirmed the cancellation, citing the need for respect towards victims and to prevent a scandal.

The auction, organized by Felzmann auction house, had included items such as concentration camp prisoner letters and Gestapo documents. Critics, including the Fritz Bauer Institute and the International Auschwitz Committee, condemned the move as insensitive and inappropriate. The cancellation was welcomed by Holocaust survivors and victims’ families, who view the auction as a desecration of history.
