St. Petersburg has introduced an AI-powered patrol system named Gorodovoy to detect hazardous icicles on buildings, a move aimed at preventing potential injuries and property damage during the winter months. The system consists of eight specially equipped vehicles that scan buildings as they patrol the city. These vehicles are equipped with advanced sensors and AI algorithms that can identify icicles that pose a risk to pedestrians and vehicles.
The initiative is part of the city’s broader efforts to enhance public safety and infrastructure management in the face of extreme weather conditions. City officials have emphasized that the AI patrols will provide a more efficient and proactive approach to icicle detection compared to traditional manual inspections. The deployment of Gorodovoy reflects a growing trend of integrating technology into urban governance to address specific local challenges.
