Mexican National Arrested for 2020 Bathtub Murder in Texas After Illegal Border Crossing

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Texas recently apprehended Hernan Perez Juarez, a Mexican national accused of murdering a woman in Georgetown in 2020. The suspect, also known as ‘Patricio Perez,’ was initially deported in 2018 for an immigration violation, leaving him without legal status in the United States. After reentering the country illegally, he committed the brutal crime, which resulted in the death of a woman found in her bathtub with a deep cut in her lower abdomen.

Authorities discovered his vehicle abandoned near the Mexico border, marking a significant clue in the case. The Georgetown Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Perez Juarez in March 2022, but the case faced delays due to his unknown whereabouts. Recently, an Austin-based task force tracked down Perez Juarez, leading to his arrest in Temple, Texas. He was taken to the Williamson County Jail for further judicial proceedings, with ICE filing an immigration detainer to address his status as an undocumented alien. The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to recent inquiries, highlighting the broader implications of border security and law enforcement efforts in this case.

This arrest underscores the challenges of tracking down fugitives who cross borders illegally, particularly those with a history of deportation. The incident brings attention to the role of ICE in handling such cases and the ongoing debates over immigration policy and border security. As the legal process unfolds, the case will likely remain in the public eye, emphasizing the complexities of cross-border crime and the pursuit of justice.
