A 17-year-old suspect, Kaevaughn Dudley, has been arrested for a shooting that occurred during Howard University’s homecoming event in Washington, D.C., resulting in five injuries. According to authorities, Dudley was identified through extensive surveillance footage that captured him firing multiple shots at a group of individuals after an initial verbal altercation. The incident took place on October 24 at Yard Fest, where a group of nine men, some in black clothing and wearing face masks, were observed in the vicinity of the campus. The altercation began with a verbal exchange between two groups, and shortly afterward, Dudley allegedly fired shots at the group, striking five individuals. The victims include three adults and a juvenile, with one of them being a Morgan State University student who suffered severe injuries, including paralysis from the chest down. The investigation into the shooting revealed the recovery of three firearms at the scene, including a privately made Polymer 80 gun, a Smith & Wesson SD9 2.0, and a Glock 19. Dudley was taken into custody on November 14 and is set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on December 18. Authorities have not yet identified an attorney for Dudley, and the case has sparked broader concerns about campus safety and a rise in violence during college homecoming events.
