Former aide to House Rep. Accused of Fabricating Political Attack
Natalie Greene, a former aide to Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.), has been charged with fabricating a politically motivated attack that allegedly occurred in Egg Harbor Township over the summer. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, Greene was part of a scheme that resulted in the staged incident. The investigation revealed that Greene had planned the attack, which included creating injuries and inscribing messages on her body, along with her co-conspirator.
The alleged attack took place on July 23, 2025, when Greene’s co-conspirator called 911 and reported that Greene had been attacked by three men on a trail at a nature preserve. During the incident, the attackers allegedly called Greene by name and referenced her employment with a federal official. Upon arrival, law enforcement found Greene bound with zip ties and with severe injuries, including lacerations and written messages on her body. She claimed that one of the attackers had a gun, but subsequent investigation found these claims to be fabricated.
Federal prosecutors revealed that Greene had paid a body modification artist to create the wounds, and that her co-conspirator had been searching for zip ties prior to the event. The FBI investigation uncovered evidence that Greene had fabricated the attack to create a false narrative, potentially for political reasons. Greene appeared in court on Wednesday and was released on $200,000 unsecured bond along with additional conditions.
The case has drawn attention to the seriousness of fabricating political incidents, which can lead to significant legal consequences, including prison time and substantial fines. The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that the charges are part of an effort to protect the integrity of the legal system and to prevent individuals from using false narratives for political gain.
Rep. Van Drew’s spokesperson expressed concern over the allegations, stating that while Greene is no longer associated with his office, they hope she is receiving the necessary care and support during this time. The case also serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability in political matters and the potential consequences for those who engage in such actions.
