U.S. Exports to Mexico Surpass Canada for First Time in 30 Years

U.S. exports to Mexico have overtaken those to Canada for the first time in over three decades, according to recent government data. This development marks a shift in the balance of North American trade, highlighting the deepening economic ties between the two nations. The U.S. has been the world’s largest trading partner for Mexico for more than a decade, but this represents the first time in at least 3,000 years that exports have surpassed those to Canada. Mexico’s Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard noted that Mexico has become the United States’ primary trading partner, emphasizing the country’s strategic role in regional trade dynamics. The data reflects the growing importance of the U.S.-Mexico trade relationship amid broader changes in global supply chains and economic integration.
