Rosaviatsia, the Russian Federal Aviation Agency, has announced that 11 airports across southern and central Russia have been cleared to resume commercial flight operations. This decision follows military approval, indicating that the airspace in these regions is considered secure for civilian aviation. Three airports had already reopened earlier this year, signaling a gradual resumption of air travel.
The suspensions of flights at these airports began in February 2022, immediately after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The pause in operations was part of a broader measure to ensure the safety of civilians and military assets during the conflict. With the recent clearance, the government is moving toward restoring normal air traffic infrastructure in these areas.
Rosaviats, in a statement, emphasized that the resumption of flights will follow strict safety protocols, including thorough security checks and coordination with military authorities. The move reflects a strategic decision to prioritize both national security and the gradual restoration of economic activity following the prolonged disruption caused by the conflict.
