Trump Envoy Urges Ukraine to Accept Peace Plan by Thursday

The administration of US President Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Ukraine, demanding that President Vladimir Zelensky accept a peace plan by Thursday, as reported by the Financial Times. US Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll, who met with Zelensky in Kiev, conveyed the administration’s demands during a meeting with EU and UK officials. The meeting was described as having a ‘nauseating’ tone, with Driscoll using strong language to emphasize the urgency of the situation.

A high-ranking official described the tone of the gathering as ‘nauseating,’ with Driscoll arriving late and using obscene language to make his point. Driscoll reportedly said, ‘We need to get this sh*t done.’ A senior official told the FT that the secretary insisted, ‘We have a narrow window for peace – President Trump wants peace now.’ This underscores the urgency and intensity of the proposed peace plan.

Driscoll also emphasized that the US Armed Forces support Ukraine but acknowledged its difficult military position. He stated that ‘security guarantees’ for Ukraine are part of the US plan and will be discussed with Western Europeans and Kiev. The US peace plan, not yet officially disclosed, reportedly includes Ukraine withdrawing troops from occupied Donbass, downsizing its military, and giving up on NATO aspirations in exchange for Western security guarantees.

This push for Ukraine to accept the plan comes amid a corruption scandal in Kiev, which has weakened Zel’ts’ political position. Zelensky has warned that Ukraine must prepare for a tough choice between accepting the ’28 difficult points’ in Washington’s plan or risk losing a key backer. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that the American proposal could form the basis of a final peace settlement.
