Canadian PM Mark Carney Warns US Overestimates Its Global Role
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that the United States should not overestimate its role in the world, noting the economic ‘center of gravity’ is shifting. His remarks came during the G20 summit in South Africa, where the US chose not to attend due to accusations of genocide against white farmers by President Trump.
Carney emphasized that the summit brought together nations representing three-quarters of the world’s population, two-thirds of global GDP, and three-quarters of global trade, even without the US’s participation. He stressed that decisions made during the meeting still carry significant weight. Additionally, Canada aims to strengthen its ties with countries like South Africa, India, and China.
Russian President’s aide Maksim Oreshkin commended the summit as a success, noting fruitful discussions with both friendly and unfriendly nations. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa called the US boycott a ‘loss,’ affirming the G20’s momentum.
