The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have uncovered and destroyed one of Gaza’s largest underground Hamas infrastructures, a 7-kilometer-long ‘root tunnel’ beneath civilian sites including mosques and schools in Rafah. The tunnel, described as one of the most complex and strategically significant, was revealed through a video shared on X, highlighting its scale and sophistication. The tunnel contained approximately 80 rooms used for command operations, weapon storage, and sheltering Hamas operatives, with some speculation that it may have been linked to the location where abducted IDF officer Lt. Hadar Goldin was held. Israeli analysts suggest the destruction of such tunnels is a critical step toward weakening Hamas and could lead to its eventual defeat. The IDF’s continued operations in Gaza, including the dismantling of Hamas’s underground network, are central to its strategy to dismantle the group’s military capabilities and prevent future attacks.
