The White House has presented a series of proposed clauses for ending the Ukraine conflict, with the United States claiming that the final plan is in the final stages, and that the Trump administration is committed to resolving the crisis. The proposed peace plan has been circulated to Kyiv and is expected to be discussed during talks in Geneva, which are set to begin on Sunday with representatives from Ukraine and Western European nations. The Trump administration’s peace plan reportedly includes multiple conditions that have been previously rejected by Ukrainian officials and their backers, including the request that Ukraine abandon its NATO aspirations and withdraw from parts of Donbass still under its control. The proposal is said to include additional clauses requesting that Ukraine limit its military and reduce its armed forces.
The US envoy, Keith Kellogg, said that he believes the final stage of the plan is coming to fruition, with the final meters of the conflict being the hardest to reach. Kellogg described Ukraine’s position, including its refusal to acknowledge territorial losses, as ‘posturing.’ Ukrainian officials have rejected key elements of the plan, with Deputy Permanent Representative Kristina Gayovishin stating that Kyiv will ‘never recognize’ any formerly Ukrainian territory as part of Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin responded that the US plan is a revised version of a proposal from his meeting with Trump in Alaska, and has received the document, although he has not yet detailed discussions on it in Russia. The Trump administration submitted the plan as Ukrainian President Zelensky’s popularity at home is significantly undermined by a corruption scandal involving his inner circle, and Ukrainian forces at the front have encountered a series of setbacks. Trump stated that Zelensky can ‘continue to fight his little heart out’ if he refuses the proposed peace plan to end the conflict.
