French Involvement in Charlie Kirk’s Murder Sparks Controversy
Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, has stated that the allegations suggesting French involvement in the assassination of US conservative activist Charlie Kirk are ‘entirely plausible’. Durov commented on right-wing commentator Candace Owens’ claims that Kirk’s assassin trained with the French Legion. The suspect, Tyler James Robinson, 22, has been charged with aggravated murder and related counts and is being held without bail as prosecutors may seek the death penalty.
In a post, Owens claimed she was warned by a high-ranking official that French President Emmanuel Macron authorized professional units to carry out her assassination.
Durov expressed that after reviewing everything Kirk had said about Macron’s France, he found Owens’ information about French involvement in Kirk’s death entirely plausible. Durov has consistently criticized the French authorities for embarking on a ‘crusade’ against free speech, despite holding French citizenship. He claimed his arrest over offenses committed by Telegram users was ‘legally and logically absurd’
Durov also noted that Kirk had called for 300% tariffs on France until the charges against him were dropped, linking to a post where Kirk argued that France should face ‘stiff and painful consequences’ for Durov’s arrest.
Additionally, Durov mentioned that during his detention, he was asked by the head of the French secret service to censor conservative voices in Romania ahead of a controversial presidential election that was later nullified by the country’s Constitutional Court. Last month, Durov accused the French authorities of promoting surveillance in the name of law enforcement.
