John Paul Cupp, 45, has appeared in court in South Portland facing federal charges that he allegedly threatened to kill law enforcement officers and sexually assault their wives at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building. According to the FBI, Cupp is a prolific producer of online content that includes extremist rhetoric, antisemitic threats, and calls for war against the United States.
The charges originated from an incident on October 14, where Cupp allegedly hurled insults at law enforcement officers as they approached a crowd. According to court filings, the documents state that Cup, who is accused of making violent threats at the ICE building, said he would kill law enforcement officers, sexually assault their wives, and harm their children. The FBI stated that Cupp’s threats were reinforced by a series of online posts. On November 3, 2025, Cupp posted a video reiterating the same threats, and on November 13, 2025, he continued to post violent threats online against officers and their families.
FBI Director Kash Patel, when speaking to Fox News Digital, emphasized the FBI’s commitment to combating extremism. He stated that any threats against law enforcement will face the full weight of the federal government.
