North Korea has developed a wide range of advanced nuclear-capable missiles, from intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) to hypersonic glide vehicles and submarine-launched missiles, enabling it to target any point in the continental United States. The Hwasong-20 ICBM, with an estimated range of over 15,000 kilometers, and the Hwasong-18, a lighter mobile system, are key components of North Korea’s strategic arsenal. In addition, the country has developed submarines capable of launching intermediate-range ballistic missiles, joining an exclusive club of nations with such capabilities. The development of hypersonic glide vehicles, which are difficult for missile-defense systems to intercept, further enhances the threat posed by North Korea’s missile program. The KN-25 multiple rocket launcher and Hwasong-11 missile systems also contribute to North Korea’s ability to strike targets across the Korean Peninsula with nuclear warheads. North Korean engineers have replicated and improved upon Russian and U.S. missile designs, incorporating modern technology to achieve greater range and accuracy, making its missile program one of the most advanced in the world.
