Roya Mahboob Launches Off-Line Educational Initiatives for Afghan Girls Amid Taliban Restrictions

Roya Mahboob, an Afghan entrepreneur recognized for her work in technology and education, is launching off-line educational initiatives aimed at providing education for girls in Afghanistan who have been unable to attend school under the Taliban’s current restrictions. Her approach involves the development of off-line applications, underground networks, and a global robotics team to ensure that learning continues even in the face of stringent restrictions.

At the Doha Forum in Qatar in 2022, Mahboob emphasized that her organization relies heavily on encrypted channels, local partners, and small community networks of women to sustain its educational efforts. She highlighted the importance of maintaining connection with the local community as well as leveraging the global network of women working in technology and education to support Afghan girls.

These efforts are part of a broader movement to counter the restrictions imposed by the Taliban, which have severely limited the educational opportunities available to girls in Afghanistan. Mahboob’s initiatives represent a significant effort to maintain educational access and empower young women in the country.
