Ubisoft Unveils AI-Powered FPS Game Amid NFTs Backlash

Ubisoft has introduced ‘Teammates’, a first-person shooter that showcases its latest advancements in AI technology by integrating AI-powered squadmates into the gameplay. Developed using the Snowdrop Engine, the game features an AI assistant named Jas’tar and two AI squadmates called Pablo and Sofia, providing players with the ability to issue voice commands for directing squad actions during combat or solving puzzles. The project builds upon Ubisoft’s previous AI experiments, such as the Neo NPCs demonstrated at GDC 2024, indicating the company’s continued investment in AI research and development.

The release of ‘Teammates’ occurs at a time when Ubisoft is attempting to move away from its earlier NFT-based initiatives, which were met with significant criticism and backlash from the gaming community and investors. By refocusing on AI technology, Ubisoft aims to position itself as a leader in the next generation of interactive entertainment. This strategic shift underscores the company’s recognition of the need to innovate and adapt to the evolving expectations of its players.
