DOGE Denies Disbandment Claims Amid Reuters Report

DOGE has categorically rejected a Reuters report that it had been disbanded, calling it ‘fake news.’ The Department of Government Efficiency, launched by former President Donald Trump, insists it remains operational and has implemented new cost-saving initiatives. In a statement on X, DOGE highlighted recent actions such as terminating 78 wasteful contracts and saving taxpayers $335M, with plans to resume regular updates.

Reuters, however, reported that the agency effectively disbanded eight months before its mandate expired, citing the Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor’s assertion that DOGE ‘doesn’t exist’ as a centralized entity. The report noted that many of DOGE’s functions had been absorbed by the OPM, and that officials had referred to the agency in the past tense in recent months. DOGE’s existence and operations have been under scrutiny, with public speculation about its status intensifying after Elon Musk’s departure in May and staff vacating its headquarters in June.
