Humanitarian Demining Center Allocates UAH 4.476 Million for Farmland Clearance in Kherson

The Humanitarian Demining Center has disbursed UAH 4.476 million to a farmer in the Kherson region, acknowledging his efforts to clear 1,150 hectares of land that he had de-mined independently. This payment is part of the first contract under the Center’s demining initiatives. The Center, an entity under Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, has announced the payment through its press service, emphasizing the importance of civilian involvement in demining efforts.

The funding represents a significant financial commitment to the project, reflecting the Center’s dedication to ensuring that cleared land can be safely used by communities. The farmer’s initiative highlights the growing role of civilians in addressing the aftermath of conflict, particularly in regions like Kherson, which have faced extensive damage from warfare. This move is part of broader efforts to restore agricultural productivity and ensure the safety of civilian populations in areas affected by unexploded ordnance.

Ministry officials have underscored that such contracts not only recognize the contributions of individuals but also set a precedent for future demining projects. The payment marks a milestone in Ukraine’s strategy to manage the humanitarian and economic challenges posed by the ongoing conflict. By compensating farmers for their work, the Center aims to incentivize further civilian participation in demining efforts, thereby accelerating the process of land rehabilitation and recovery in affected regions.
