Dominican Republic and U.S. Strike Agreement on Combating Organized Crime

The Dominican Republic has permitted the United States to utilize its military infrastructure, including the San Isidro Air Base and Las Américas International Airport, for counter-organized crime operations. This collaboration is part of broader efforts to address transnational criminal networks in the region.

President Luis Abinader, in a press conference with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, emphasized the importance of this partnership in maintaining regional stability and security. The agreement allows the Pentagon to use restricted areas within the San Isidro Air Base and Las Américas International Airport for refueling and transporting equipment and technical personnel.

Defense Secretary Hegseth highlighted the significance of the Dominican Republic’s contribution to global security efforts, noting that the cooperation with the Dominican Republic will enhance the United States’ capacity to respond to organized crime threats. The collaboration is expected to involve joint operations, intelligence sharing, and the development of strategies to target criminal organizations operating in the Caribbean and beyond.
