Mike Johnson Urges Strengthening U.S.-Israel Alliance Amid GOP Divisions

House Speaker Mike Johnson has emphasized the strategic necessity of the U.S.-Israel alliance, framing it as a critical component of American foreign policy amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. During an interview on ‘The Katie Miller Podcast,’ he addressed growing divisions within the Republican Party over U.S. support for Israel, stating that the relationship must be universally recognized as essential to U.S. interests. Johnson argued that the alliance is crucial for maintaining stability in a region that has long been a geopolitical tinderbox, noting that Israel remains the only stable democracy in the area.

Speaking about the issue of antisemitism, Johnson called for a unified stance against the practice, asserting that it must be ‘universally rejected.’ He emphasized that while some individuals may disagree with the religious or biblical motivations for supporting Israel, the alliance’s strategic value must be acknowledged from an objective standpoint. Johnson’s comments come as a small but growing number of House Republicans, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie, have begun to question the party’s traditional pro-Israel position. These representatives have criticized U.S. military aid to Israel and challenged the influence of pro-Israel lobbying groups, particularly AIP, on American foreign policy.

Greene, who announced her plans to resign from Congress in January 2026, has been a vocal opponent of U.S. policies toward Israel, calling for cuts to military aid and expressing concerns about the impact of Israeli actions on U.S. interests. Massie, on the other hand, has long opposed the funding of Israeli military operations, arguing that the influence of pro-Israel groups has skewed U.S. foreign policy decisions. Despite these dissenting voices, Johnson remains a staunch defender of the U.S.-Israel alliance, insisting that it is a cornerstone of American strategic interests in the region.
