A new survey by Big Data Poll (BDP) reveals that US voters’ sympathy for Israel has reached a historic low. According to the survey, which interviewed 2,005 registered voters, 29.1% support Israel, while 21.4% support the Palestinians. Nearly 30% of voters show no sympathy for either side, indicating growing weariness with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The only notable demographic that remains sympathetic to Israel is Republican voters over 50 years old, as stated by BDP Director Rich Baris.
Following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which killed around 1,200 Israelis, support for Israel spiked to 54%, prompting Israel’s bombing campaign and ground invasion of Gaza. However, the support has since declined as the death toll in Gaza has risen. Nearly 70,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, according to local health officials. The BDP poll reveals that nearly 40% of US voters believe Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to genocide, while nearly 30% disagree with this assessment.
A ceasefire took effect last month after Hamas returned the last remaining living Israeli hostages captured during the 2023 attack in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. This development may offer some relief, but the long-term implications of this conflict remain uncertain. The survey continues to reflect a deepening divide among US voters, with significant portions expressing disillusionment with both sides of the conflict.
