Progressive group Indivisible, which has long been associated with the political activism of George Soros and has been linked to various far-left movements, is accused of infiltrating a crucial House race in New York’s 17th District. The group, which has been at the forefront of various anti-Trump demonstrations, including the Tesla protests, appears to be playing an active role in efforts to undermine Trump’s political agenda by backing Beth Davidson, a progressive Democrat and former Rockland County legislator running against Republican Mike Lawler, who represents a swing district crucial to maintaining congressional control.
With primary races already in motion for the upcoming 2026 Midterm elections, Indivisible has set its sights on Lawler, positioning Davidson as the group’s chosen candidate to challenge him. Davidson’s social media presence includes numerous posts promoting Indivisible, including attending an event in June in Rockland, New York, and being featured in a promotional video that same month. Indivisible has also been at the center of other aspects of the race, with local chapters organizing protests at Lawler town hall events in April and May. This has led to accusations from the National Republican Congressional Committee that Indivisible is trying to undermine Trump’s agenda through these actions.
In response to the allegations, Indivisible has stated that its mission is to resist the GOP agenda and elect local champions who support progressive policies. The group was founded in response to Trump’s 2016 election and has been at the helm of various protests, including the reimbursement program for activists involved in Tesla protests. These protests, which have included both peaceful demonstrations and instances of violence, have been labeled as domestic terrorism by the Department of Justice due to acts such as arson. The group has also been associated with calls to abolish ICE and defund the police, further fueling political tensions.
Beth Davidson, the progressive candidate backed by Indivisible, has been accused of infiltrating congressional races to undermine Trump. Her campaign has seen significant support from the group, including a financial contribution from Bill Batson, a member of the Indivisible Rockland steering committee, who gave $250 to her campaign through his own fundraising committee, according to FEC records. In response to the accusations, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesperson Maureen O’Toole condemned Indivisible’s actions, claiming that the group’s strategy is to infiltrate congressional races and undermine Trump’s agenda through grassroots efforts.
Davidson has also received the endorsement of Mondaire Jones, another progressive who previously held Lawler’s seat. The race for NY-17 is viewed as one of the most closely watched in the country, as Republicans attempt to maintain their slim majority in Congress. The Cook Political Report has ranked the race as
