Karoline Leavitt Condemns Democrats and Media for Defending Suspected Human Trafficker Kilmar Abrego Garcia

Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary, has been vocal in criticizing Democrats and the media for their perceived defense of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a suspected MS-13 gang member now facing federal charges for human smuggling and conspiracy. Leavitt accused the Democratic Party and journalists of perpetuating a narrative that shields the accused, an individual who has been indicted for trafficking and abusing vulnerable individuals, including women and children. She also took aim at Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., for visiting Abrego Garcia in El Salvador, calling for apologies from all who defended the accused.

Abrego Garcia, who was deported to an El Salvador mega prison in March, was returned to the U.S. to face charges after being found in possession of $1,400 in cash and flagged for gang activity. His alleged involvement in a human smuggling ring over nearly a decade has prompted calls for accountability. Leavitt emphasized that the Trump administration remains committed to holding criminals responsible for their actions. Despite these allegations, Abrego Garcia continued to be referred to as a ‘Maryland man’ by media outlets, including the Washington Post, highlighting the ongoing debate over how to portray individuals accused of serious crimes.
