Federal Immigration Raids on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard Result in 40 Arrests, Including MS-13 Member and Child Sex Offender

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that joint operations on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard resulted in approximately 40 arrests, with officials emphasizing that the effort represents a significant public safety achievement. Among those detained was a documented member of MS-13, a notorious transnational criminal gang, and a child sex offender, highlighting the federal government’s focus on removing dangerous individuals from communities. The operation was conducted in coordination with federal agencies, including the FBI, DEA, and ATF, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard, which ensured the safe transportation of detainees off the islands.

ICE Acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde noted the collaboration between agencies as crucial to the success of the operation, stating that the removal of the individuals was a key step in enhancing community safety. The raids also align with broader national efforts to secure the border and address the issue of illegal immigration, with officials under the Trump administration initiating initiatives such as Project Homecoming, which offers financial incentives and travel assistance to encourage voluntary deportation.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared a post on X, referencing the arrests and using the waving hand emoji as she encouraged individuals to comply with immigration laws. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also promoted the CBP Home app, which allows illegal immigrants to self-deport, offering a $1,000 stipend to those who do so. These measures are part of the administration’s strategy to reduce the number of undocumented individuals in the country through a combination of enforcement and voluntary repatriation.

President Donald Trump frequently emphasized the need for stricter immigration controls, criticizing the previous administration for enabling illegal immigration and allowing individuals who pose a risk to public safety to remain in the United States. His comments in an all-caps post on Truth Social reflected a hardline stance on immigration, blaming the previous administration for the surge in illegal entries. The current administration’s approach to immigration enforcement continues to be a key policy issue, with officials citing the need to protect national security and public safety as central to the strategy.
