Former President Joe Biden has made his first public comments since being diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. In a post on X, he acknowledged the impact of cancer, expressing gratitude for the support he has received from the public. Biden’s team revealed that the former president was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms, leading to the diagnosis of prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone. While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.
Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, and President Donald Trump have since commented on Biden’s cancer diagnosis. Obama expressed his thoughts on social media, noting that Michelle and he are thinking of the entire Biden family. He highlighted Biden’s contributions to finding breakthrough treatments for cancer and expressed confidence that he will fight the challenge with his trademark resolve and grace. Trump, on the other hand, expressed sadness for Biden’s diagnosis and extended his wishes for a fast and successful recovery. Clinton, meanwhile, emphasized Biden’s resilience, stating that ‘My friend Joe Biden’s always been a fighter,’ and expressed his support for the family during this difficult time.
