Seth Jason, a former federal employee and reserve police officer, has been arrested and faces charges for allegedly making death threats against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her family. The threats, reportedly made from Voice of America control rooms, were alleged to span nearly two years. Jason, 64, of Maryland, was arrested by the United States Capitol Police (USCP) and is facing a four-count indictment for crimes including influencing a federal official through threats, interstate telecommunications harassment, and unauthorized communications with a threat to kidnap or injure. The arrest is described as a result of police seizing multiple devices, including a laptop, several telephones, an iPad, and thumb drives. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated the threats were made ‘repeatedly and continuously’ from October 2023 to the end of January 2024. The threats included violent and specific statements such as, ‘I’m looking forward to your book signing. We are all armed and ready to take care of you. We’re coming after you and your staff, and we are locked and loaded. We’re going to take you all out. We’ve got our AK-47s. You’re going to get one between the eyes. Bam, bam, bam.’ Staff members at Greene’s offices, including their families, were also targeted in these threats. Pirro emphasized that Jason, a rogue former employee at Voice of America, used the federal communication systems in control rooms, where broadcasters reported to, to make the threats. In a statement, Greene expressed her fear and gratitude for the swift legal action taken to stop the threats. She described the sustained and targeted harassment as deeply disturbing, fearing for her life and that of her family. The case highlights the growing concerns about threats against lawmakers, especially in the wake of the recent Minnesota murders of Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. U.S. Capitol Police Chief Mike Sullivan highlighted the need for accountability, stating that threats against lawmakers have taken on a new gravity since these incidents. Meanwhile, Kari Lake, a senior advisor to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, expressed her outrage over the use of taxpayer-funded equipment to make such threats, calling for the shutdown of Voice of America. Lake praised Pirro’s actions but added that it’s time to shut down the agency. Additionally, Pirro vowed to enforce strict accountability for federal employees, stating that no one should live in fear of threats. The case has sparked broader discussions about the security of lawmakers and the role of federal agencies in ensuring public safety. As the investigation continues, it is clear that this incident has significant implications for the safety of public officials and the integrity of federal institutions.
