Florida Woman Charged with Road Rage After Allegedly Spraying Mace at Driver Who Struck Chicken

A Florida woman, Cynthia Valeska Díaz Sosa, has been charged with aggravated battery and burglary with assault after allegedly using bear mace on a driver who ran over a chicken she was attempting to let pass. The incident, which occurred in Key West, involved a bizarre road rage altercation between Sosa and Perla DeMiller.

According to police, Sosa had stopped her car to let a chicken cross the road, but DeMiller, who was behind her, honked, swerved, and ran over the bird, leading to an escalation. Sosa allegedly followed DeMiller’s vehicle, forced it to stop, and sprayed bear mace into the cabin, striking De, causing her to be blinded and disoriented. Sosa was arrested on July 9 and released on a $35,000 bond after a traffic stop. Her arraignment is set for July 24. The incident also resulted in a no-contact order for those involved.

The arrest affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital states that Sosa wanted to ‘teach her a lesson,’ leading to the application of bear mace into the vehicle. DeMiller, who was en route to pick up her child from daycare, was reportedly blinded and disoriented by the spray. A passenger in her car was also allegedly affected by the mace. All of those involved in the incident are now protected under no-contact orders issued by a judge.

Sosa’s black Toyota Corolla was later identified and stopped by police, leading to her being placed in custody at the scene. She was searched in front of a patrol vehicle before being transported to the Key West Police station, where she gave a voluntary statement to officers. Court records indicate that Sosa has filed a written plea of ‘not guilty’ through her attorney, Dustin Hunter, who has not yet responded to requests for comment.

DeMiller’s condition was reportedly severe, though no injuries were noted in official reports. The incident has sparked discussions about road rage and the legality of using bear mace in such situations. The case also highlights the potential consequences of impulsive actions, leading to charges and a lengthy legal process before Sosa’s arraignment.
