On Sunday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a large-scale operation in Denver, apprehending 243 illegal immigrants who were either charged with or had been convicted of various criminal offenses. The arrests, which took place during a multi-agency operation, included individuals with serious charges such as murder, sexual assault, and drug trafficking. ICE stated that many of those apprehended were already released back into the Denver metropolitan area due to Colorado’s sanctuary laws, which prohibit sheriffs from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.
Robert Guadian, the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Denver Field Office director, commented on the operation, saying,
