Two people were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after their small plane crashed into the Long Island Sound, near Tweed New Haven Airport in Connecticut. The aircraft, a Piper PA-32, had declared an emergency and was redirected to the airport for an emergency landing, but ultimately ended up in the water.
According to statements from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and airport officials, the plane crashed just before 10:30 a.m., south of Tweed New Haven Airport, after declaring an emergency while in communication with New York Air Traffic Control. The aircraft was traveling from the Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Bridgeport to an unspecified destination, according to officials.
