GOP Lawmakers Dismiss Report on Trump’s Name in Epstein Files

House Republicans have largely downplayed a new report suggesting that President Donald Trump’s name was listed in the Epstein files, with lawmakers expressing confidence that all information would eventually be made public. Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) stated that Trump would release everything and that if his name was in the files, it would come out. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who is leading an effort to force a vote on releasing the files, noted the potential embarrassment of having one’s name in the news without any criminal charges. The Wall Street Journal had previously reported that the Justice Department informed Trump in May that his name was among the files, alongside other prominent individuals. Despite the controversy, GOP leaders have decided to postpone any votes on Epstein-related matters until after the August recess, while the Trump administration has taken steps to release grand jury information from the case. Other Republicans reiterated that Trump’s inclusion in the files was already widely known and part of ongoing public narratives.
