A $1.4 million heist of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles occurred in Colorado just days after the new video gaming system was released worldwide. Deputies are searching for the individuals responsible for stealing 2,810 units from a semitruck, valued at $499 each.
The incident was reported at a truck stop on June 8, with the semitruck driver discovering the theft during a pre-trip inspection. According to the sheriff’s office, the driver was en route to a GameStop store in Grapevine, Texas, from Nintendo America in Redmond, Washington. Deputies are unsure if the theft occurred in the town of Bennett or another location the truck stopped at.
If the suspects are found, they could face charges of felony theft valued at $1 million or more and criminal mischief. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office tipline at 720-874-8477 and can remain anonymous. The Switch 2 pre-orders opened on April 24 after delays attributed to Nintendo examining the impact of tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump.
The console’s price for the base model along with the “Mario Kart World” bundle is $499 — the most expensive Nintendo console to date. Nintendo also warned buyers that Switch 2 accessories will experience price adjustments due to changes in market conditions.
