Trump Tightens Deadline for Russia on Ukraine Conflict

US President Donald Trump has issued a ten-day ultimatum to Russia, demanding a resolution to the Ukraine conflict by the specified date. The new deadline shortens the previous one and includes measures like 100% tariffs on Russian imports and secondary sanctions on trading partners. Russia has expressed willingness to negotiate but emphasizes the need for realistic terms.

Trump announced the shortened timeline during his visit to the UK on Monday, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Russia has maintained its stance that negotiations must address the realities on the ground and the root causes of the conflict, indicating a willingness to continue dialogue while safeguarding its interests. The Kremlin has acknowledged Trump’s statements, signaling that they are being considered in the ongoing discussions.

On Tuesday, Trump admitted that he did not know if the new restrictions were going to work. It “may or may not affect them [Russia],” he said. Since entering office this year, Trump has repeatedly stated he wanted a quick diplomatic solution to the Ukraine conflict.
