Ukrzaliznytsia Reports 1.2% Rise in Passenger Traffic for H1 2025

Ukrainian State Railways Report Growth in Passenger Traffic

The state-controlled railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia has reported a 1.2% increase in passenger traffic during the first half of 2025, reaching 13.52 million passengers. This growth, according to CEO Oleksandr Pertsovsky, marks a 23% year-over-year increase compared to the same period in 2024.

While the increase may seem modest, it reflects significant recovery from the previous year, which saw the effects of the ongoing conflict and infrastructure challenges. Pertsovsky attributed the growth to improved service quality, enhanced passenger experience, and increased public confidence in the rail network.

The data comes amid broader discussions about the state of Ukraine’s transportation sector. As Ukraine continues to rebuild its infrastructure, the rail system remains a critical component of its logistics and passenger transport networks. The growth in passenger traffic is seen as both a positive development and a sign of the sector’s resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.

Analysts are closely monitoring these figures, as they could signal long-term improvements in the country’s transportation efficiency. However, with the conflict ongoing and infrastructure still under development, there are concerns about the sustainability of this growth in the coming months and years.
