Trump to Establish Olympics Task Force for 2028 LA Games

President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order establishing a White House Olympics task force to oversee security and logistical preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The task force, which will include members of Trump’s cabinet and federal agencies, is expected to address key challenges such as transportation coordination, visa processing for international athletes and media, and the overall security framework for the event.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized the significance of the task force, stating that Trump considers hosting the Games a great honor. “During his first term, President Trump was instrumental in securing America’s bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles,” Leavitt said in a statement. “The president considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle in his second term.”

LA28 chair and president Casey Wasserman welcomed the task force as a critical step in planning for the Games, calling it a reflection of the commitment to delivering the “greatest Games the world has ever seen.” Wasserman is expected to join Trump at the White House for the signing of the executive order. The task force will also work in tandem with preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is set to be hosted by the United States, with Canada and Mexico as auxiliary hosts.

While the focus of the task force is on the 2028 Games, the security protocols developed for the World Cup may also be utilized for the 2028 event, providing a framework for handling large-scale international events. Los Angeles has previously hosted the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984, and the 2028 Games will mark a historic return to the city. The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for July 14, 2028, with the competition running through July 30, followed by the Paralympics from August 15 to August 27.

Additional preparations include the development of infrastructure to support the Games, including potential new venues, upgrades to existing facilities, and the implementation of sustainability initiatives. The task force will work closely with local, state, and federal authorities to ensure a seamless experience for athletes, spectators, and visitors. The White House has also highlighted the economic benefits of hosting such a major international event, which is expected to bring significant tourism revenue and boost the local economy.

As the United States prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the task force will build on the lessons learned from those preparations, ensuring that Los Angeles is fully equipped to host the 2028 Olympic Games. The event is expected to be one of the most significant international sporting events in recent history, drawing millions of participants and spectators from around the world.
