NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Connor Zilisch took a hard fall as he celebrated a win at Watkins Glen on Saturday and suffered a broken collarbone. The incident occurred as Zil’tisch climbed onto the roof of his No. 88 car to celebrate the victory, only to slip after his left foot got caught in the driver’s side window netting and tumble onto the asphalt.
Zilisch shared on social media that he sustained a broken collarbone, writing, ‘Thank you everybody for reaching out today. I’m out of the hospital and getting better already. Thankful for all the medics for quick attention and grateful it wasn’t any worse.’
With his next scheduled Xfinity Series race set for Aug. 22 at Daytona International Speedway, Zilisch will miss the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen, where Trackhouse Racing withdrew the No. 87 car. Zilisch had been performing exceptionally well this season, recording 11 consecutive top-five finishes and five wins, and has now won four out of the last five races.
Previously, Zilisch had missed a race at Texas Motor Speedway in March due to a back injury sustained during a crash at Talladega Superspeedway. Despite the setback, he has maintained a strong performance and is currently seven points ahead of Justin Allgaier in the drivers’ standings. The 19-year-old has 12 top-five finishes and 14 top-10 finishes this season, highlighting his growing influence in the series.
