Trump Nominates State Department Spokeswoman Tammy Bruce for U.N. Deputy Role

President Donald Trump has nominated Tammy Bruce, the U.S. State Department’s spokesperson, to serve as Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador. The announcement came as part of a broader effort by Trump to influence the U.S. diplomatic stance on global issues, leveraging individuals with strong political and media backgrounds.

Bruce, who has been with the administration since Trump took office, has been a vocal supporter of the administration’s policies on immigration, the situation in Ukraine, and the conflict in Gaza. Her appointment is seen as a move to reinforce a pro-Trump narrative within U.N. discussions. However, the Senate has already left for recess, which may delay the confirmation process for her nomination, as well as for other Trump appointees such as Mike Waltz, who is awaiting confirmation as U.N. ambassador.

Before joining the State Department, Bruce was a long-time conservative commentator at Fox News, where she became known for her articulate and often contentious takes on political and social issues. Trump praised her as a ‘Great Patriot’ and a ‘highly respected political analyst’ who understood the ‘MAGA’ movement early on. The nomination reflects Trump’s continued reliance on media-savvy figures to shape both domestic and international narratives.

While the Senate’s recess is likely to slow the confirmation process, Bruce’s potential confirmation would mark a significant shift in the U.S. approach to multilateral diplomacy, emphasizing a more confrontational yet strategically calculated stance at the U.N. The role of deputy representative is a key position in shaping the U.S. position on global issues, and Bruce’s background in both government and media suggests she will play a prominent role in this capacity.
