Ukrainians in Kyiv have expressed a range of reactions to Donald Trump’s suggestion of initiating peace talks between the United States and Russia without Ukrainian participation. Many are concerned that such a move could jeopardize their country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
During a recent visit to the capital, journalists interviewed several citizens on the street, asking for their views on Trump’s plan. Many voiced their apprehension about the potential consequences of excluding Ukraine from the negotiations, fearing that it could lead to territorial concessions or a weakening of their position in ongoing conflicts with Russia.
Others, however, remained cautiously optimistic, noting that the involvement of a former U.S. president could bring a different perspective to the negotiations. Despite these mixed sentiments, the overwhelming majority of respondents expressed a strong desire for Ukraine to maintain its independence and to be directly involved in any peace talks with Russia.
