Boston sports radio hosts have expressed strong disapproval of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers after he announced that the 2025 season could mark his final year in the NFL. The backlash came from WEEI Radio’s Greg Hill, Courtney Cox, and Chris Curtis, who criticized Rodgers for making his potential retirement a public spectacle rather than focusing solely on the team’s performance.
Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, revealed his plans during an interview on ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ which immediately drew the ire of the Boston radio group. Hill, in particular, expressed frustration over Rodgers’ decision to turn his final season into a farewell tour, calling it a ‘kind of a d—– move.’ He emphasized that Rodgers should have kept the information private and not made it a public issue, which could affect the team’s focus during the season.
Cox voiced her discontent, lamenting that the other Steelers players would be bombarded with questions about Rodgers’ impending retirement. She also criticized Rodgers for what she perceived as an egotistical move, saying, ‘Give me a break with the ‘I just wanted to do this for fun for my final (season) – it’s been 0 years, haha, chuckle, chuckle.’ No, you did it so that you could tell everybody you’re retiring and have a farewell tour. That’s why you did it. You’re an egomaniac, a narcissist.’ Cox admitted to hypocrisy, stating that she would have done the same if she were in Rodgers’ position and would have appreciated it if it were Tom Brady doing the same thing.
Curtis further piled on, criticizing Rodgers for being ‘loathsome’ and questioning the Steelers’ decision to sign him, especially with head coach Mike Tomlin on board. He suggested that Tomlin is not performing at his best, adding fuel to the criticism. Despite the hostility, Rodgers expressed his commitment to the team, vowing to ’empty the tank’ for the Steelers during his final season. He emphasized his satisfaction with the opportunity to play for the Steelers, reiterating his desire to contribute to the team’s success.
