John Fogerty, the iconic lead singer of Credence Clearwater Revival, has publicly praised Bruce Springsteen for his courageous stance against President Donald Trump. Fogerty expressed his admiration during an interview with Rolling Stone, where he highlighted Spring, who is the singer of the band Springsteen, for his commitment to speaking out against Trump’s policies. This endorsement comes as Springsteen continues his longstanding opposition to the former president, a position he has held for nearly a decade.
During his recent world tour, Springsteen has incorporated anti-Trump messages into his performances, urging audiences to resist what he describes as a threat to democracy. In May, at a show in Manchester, Springsteen delivered a brief speech between songs, warning that the United States is being led by a ‘corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.’ He called on his audience to ‘rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism and let freedom ring,’ emphasizing the dangers he sees in the current political climate.
Trump, in turn, has responded with sharp criticism, calling Springsteen ‘highly overrated’ and a ‘pushy, obnoxious JERK.’ In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump dismissed Springsteen’s criticism of him as politically motivated, accusing him of supporting former Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he has strongly opposed. Springsteen, however, has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential race, aligning himself with the Democratic candidate in a clear political statement.
Fogerty, drawing a parallel to President Nixon’s approach, advised Trump against public confrontations, suggesting that such actions could amplify the issue rather than resolve it. He noted that even though Trump and Nixon are similar in their political approaches, Nixon chose not to publicly spar with his critics, a strategy Fogerty believes Trump should emulate. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter.
Springsteen’s actions have sparked significant debate, with some praising his willingness to speak out against the president and others criticizing his political stance. As the 2024 election approaches, his public comments could influence the political discourse, reflecting the growing polarization in American politics and the role of celebrity in political commentary.
