Ukraine’s Ministry of Communities and Territories Development has signed a sectoral agreement with the Trade Union of Construction and Building Materials Industry Workers to double the minimum wage in the construction sector. The new rate is UAH 12,143, up from UAH 6,995. This agreement aims to improve the living standards of construction workers and boost the sector’s economic contribution.
The decision comes amid growing concerns about inflation and the impact of the ongoing conflict on the economy. By increasing wages, the government hopes to reduce the purchasing power erosion faced by workers in the construction industry. This move could also help retain skilled labor and increase productivity in the affected region.
Industry representatives have welcomed the decision, noting that it aligns with international labor standards and could lead to increased investment in the sector. However, some experts caution that the long-term success of this initiative depends on the government’s ability to maintain economic stability and support businesses in the face of geopolitical and economic challenges.
