New Pew Research Poll: Trump’s Coalition Grows with Minority Voters in 2024 Election

A new Pew Research Center poll unveiled the significant expansion of President Donald Trump’s voter coalition during the 2024 election, emphasizing his growing appeal among racially and ethnically diverse communities. The poll, which is described by the Pew Research Center as a study of the 2024 election based on validated voter data, highlights Trump’s ability to secure substantial support from Hispanic, Black, and Asian voters. This marks a notable shift from the 2020 election, where Trump’s support among Hispanic voters was significantly lower, at 36% compared to Kamala Harris’s 61%. In this context, the poll suggests a dramatic turnaround with 48% of Hispanic voters now backing Trump and 51% supporting Harris. This development signals a potential realignment in the voting landscape, particularly among this demographic.

The poll also reveals a 7% increase in Trump’s support among Black voters, with 15% of them casting their votes for the former president. This represents a marked improvement from the 8% support he received in the 2020 election. Meanwhile, Asian voters, who traditionally lean left, have also shown a positive shift, with 40% of them now supporting Trump, compared to 30% in 2020. This indicates a gradual movement toward Trump within this demographic, although the majority of Asian voters (57%) still prefer Harris. The poll emphasizes the growing influence of Trump across diverse ethnic and racial groups, suggesting the potential for a broader and more unified voter coalition in the 2024 election.

Additionally, the poll highlights the importance of educational attainment in shaping voter outcomes. Trump maintains a notable edge among voters who did not complete a four-year college degree, with 56% of them backing him against 42% for Harris. This 14-point margin is a significant increase from 2016, where Trump’s lead was less pronounced. The poll further underscores the role of geography and religion in voter preferences. Rural voters overwhelmingly supported Trump, with 69% of them casting their votes for him, while urban voters favored Harris with 65% of the vote. Moreover, about two-thirds of religious voters, those who attend services monthly or more, supported Trump, while only a third voted for Harris. These findings provide insight into the evolving political landscape and the factors influencing voter behavior in the 2024 election.

Trump’s performance among men, particularly those under 50 years old, also reflects his growing appeal. In 2020, men under 50 voted for Biden by 10 points, but in the 2024 race, the gap has narrowed to just 2 points, with Trump receiving 49% of their votes. This shift indicates the potential for a younger demographic to become more aligned with Trump’s policies and message. The poll’s findings highlight Trump’s ability to attract a diverse coalition of voters, spanning multiple age groups, educational backgrounds, and geographic regions. The increasing support from minority and non-college-educated voters suggests that Trump’s campaign strategy has successfully resonated with a broader segment of the American electorate.

Commenting on the poll results, Harrison Fields, the special assistant to the president and principal deputy press secretary, stated that the historic reelection of President Trump and the overall MAGA movement represent a ‘big tent’ that is welcoming to a wide array of Americans. Fields emphasized the importance of national pride and the fulfillment of Trump’s campaign promises, which have been supported by 77 million voters. He expressed optimism about the future, describing it as a ‘Golden Age’ under Trump’s leadership. These statements reflect the administration’s stance on the significance of the poll results and their belief in the continued support from a diverse and growing voter base. The poll’s insights into Trump’s expanding coalition are likely to influence subsequent political strategies and messaging, particularly as the 2024 election approaches.
